IPPF

The International Planned Parenthood Federation

Goals:

The International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) is a non-profit organization that is spread over a vast number of countries, serving in the family planning, abortion, maternal and child health, and STI and HIV treatment, prevention and care sector. It is a home to the downtrodden war and natural disaster affectees. Keeping in mind the international access of the website, Xululabs had to develop the backend integrity with ease of information and proper coordination by its huge audience.

Solution:

Xululabs developed a robust architecture for the IPPF website using Drupal Open Atrium. Homepage is the snapshot of the entire website. It is an amalgam of the various sources of information, news and social media happenings for the IPPF, allowing for direct access to its audience. Streamlined site navigation and visually enhanced structure helped in creating a responsive theme of the website. The Donation form is a pivotal element for any NGO and on the IPPF website it covers a large section of the footer on all the pages of the website. Open source Content Management System of Drupal was used at the backend for regular and swift updates to the IPPF website.

Considering the immense amount of services offered by IPPF website, and the large set of its international audience and member organizations, Xululabs planned an information flow with a smooth interlinking of the topics at hand plus the Filter options for searching by language, content type, or the topic. Thus allowing for the website resources present in the form of publications, videos, blogs, news, etc., being displayed in a convenient and searchable form. The search results can be further sorted by author, title, etc., in the ascending or descending order. View options also exist to be viewed in list or grid form.  The entire Glossary has been developed to jump from one topic to another by simply clicking on the relevant alphabets. The filters can drill down to search the topics by post date or by the themes such as advocacy, gender equality, humanitarian, etc. Apache Solr search and the Drupal content types with Views were applied to achieve this heavy search technique.

To cater to the international member associations of the IPPF, Xululabs designed a world map with clickable areas that correspond to the desired country’s information. Similar functionality can also be achieved by using the drop down menu with the list of different countries. After selecting the required option, one gets to view the details of that member association and its country’s data. The IPPF website has been further divided into Regional websites (Africa, South Asia, Arab world, etc) by applying the rigorous Drupal Organic Groups concept. Each regional website’s admin can update its site contents across other regional websites as well.

Drupal Features is a module used by large companies, and has been applied extensively across the IPPF website to streamline the interlinked site contents and resources. Social media integration and the different language options for the IPPF website have been incorporated by the Xululabs team effectively, making it a site with an international appeal that fulfills its online objectives in a congenial environment.
